Why Do People Join AUSA?  | AUSA is the only professional organization representing all components of the Army: Active Duty; National Guard; Army Reserve; Government Civilians; Retirees; ROTC Cadets, and defense industry members. AUSA is dedicated to keeping America’s Army strong. AUSA operates on two basic levels: | National level: Focused on the entire Army. - AUSA addresses Army issues in the Congress (the Army is prohibited from lobbying).
- Led the campaign for the recently received military pay raise
- Led the campaign to ensure that at least 3% of the GNP is spent on Defense
- Led the campaign to end the "procurement holiday" and get serious about modernization.
- AUSA sponsors the Institute of Land Warfare (ILW)
- Provides an assortment of professional books directly related to the art of war.
- Sponsors a series of forums around the world providing prominent speakers on military topics.
- Sponsors special events with noted authors of military related books.
- Provides a forum in which military professionals can discuss all matters of mutual interest.

Chapter level: Focused on soldiers and their dependents. Examples of George Washington chapter activities: - Provides $15,000 annually in college scholarships
- Provides soldier and NCO of the quarter/year awards to Army organizations
- Provides funding for unit Fun Runs, Christmas Balls, Organization Day activities and other similar functions.
- Supports the MDW Family Support Group Program.
- Contributes to other organizations supporting the Army such as the Arlington Ladies (Arlington Cemetery), Junior ROTC, and others.
- Conducts quarterly luncheon meetings featuring prominent speakers.
- Sponsors an annual golf tournament (fund raiser for the scholarships).
